Sustrans Mentro Allan - 2011

  1. Ticking All the Boxes

This project engaged Creative Arts Wales in making a digital story/mini documentary for Sustrans Mentro Allan, RCT.  This four year lottery funded project targeted people on a low income, people with mental health issues and older people, and its aim was to set up sustainable outdoor activity groups by providing free outdoor activities for people who do little or no exercise.

One of the main successes of the project was seen to be the partnership with mental health services in Rhondda Cynon Taff, and Mentro Allan commissioned Creative Arts Wales to document the successes of the project and to use as tool to elicit further funding.

This commission differed from the usual digital storytelling workshops in that participants were interviewed, filmed and photographed by Creative Arts Wales, with the resultant footage edited into one single story. The participants included Mentro Allan staff, mental health professionals, activity providers and mental health service users. The final story, or mini documentary, is therefore much longer than individual ones and using this method is an ideal tool for promoting community ventures or to evaluate the level of success of a project.
