As Chair of Breaking Barriers Community Arts I was invited to run a workshop at the TPAS (Tenants participation and advisory service) annual conference.  The theme of the conference was called “Back to the Future” so the digital storytelling genre fitted the conference theme extremely well as stories about events in the past and personal memories are intertwined with stories about how we live today, whilst others are aimed as a lobbying tool to challenge attitudes, and campaign for change in the future.

In keeping with the conference theme the workshop focused on the importance of having real voices represent an organisation and the way in which new communications and media such as digital storytelling and DVDs, enable organisations to get their message across. At the end of the presentation everyone attending the workshop was given the opportunity to participate in a story circle and had their first introduction to the joys of storytelling.
